Along this route you'll be touring the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve, an official Florida protected area, as well as some nice rural roads. You should be able to complete this drive within two hours including taking time to eat and stop for gas. The Green Swamp Preserve is situated in the adjoining corners of three different counties - Sumter, Lake, and Polk. This large preserve contains 560,000 acres of wetlands, flatlands, and low sandy ridges that define the sections of the area. The rainwater that flows here forms the headwaters of four rivers: the Withlacoochee, the Ocklawaha, the Hillsborough and the Peace. With its protected status and beautiful natural water bodies, the area offers a quiet rural feel that draws travelers from all around the country.
