The Trail of the Ancients is 350 plus miles of scenic driving through Colorado's arid southwestern corner and the vivid deserts of southeastern Utah. The route's austere and mostly uninhabited terrain abounds with many beautiful natural attractions such as snow-capped mountains, red rock landscapes, lush valleys and sandstone lined canyons. In addition to natural sites, the route will take you through the archaeological heartland of America. The Trail is dotted with ancient Native American remnants, and the ruins and other cultural elements that you'll be seeing along the way serve as reminders of the ancient peoples that occupied this area around AD 1300. Allow a few days to explore all that the byway has to offer. You'll get to experience ancient history, walk under a natural stone bridge, and stand in four states at once.
