Scenery You'll See
This route is a 500 mile-long stretch of road that links Oregon's Crater Lake to California's Mount Lassen. As you travel through this Volcano to Volcano highway you are treated to beautiful dramatic views of soaring mountain peaks, lava tube caves, deep volcanic lakes and wavy lava flows. The major volcanoes you'll encounter along the way are Crater Lake, Medicine Lake, Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen. Surrounding this fascinating volcanic topography is a wide diversity of scenery. In the Oregon section of the route you'll travel to "the top of the world" on the rim of Crater Lake with the views of evergreen forests, lava cliffs and wildflowers. The spectacular scenery that you'll encounter in California section of the route includes the world-famous Mount Shasta. Along this Byway you can also enjoy viewing a wide variety of wildlife species, including over a million birds at Klamath Lake. There's also a massive amount of recreational opportunities and a wide array of outdoor activities that you can enjoy along this route.
Towns/Cities You'll Pass By/Through
The charming towns that you'll be traveling through along this route abound with extraordinary historical and cultural opportunities as well as plentiful visitor services. Food markets and small rural gift shops offering local arts and crafts can be found in Fort Klamath, Rocky Point, and Odessa. Larger grocery stores and shopping malls are located in Klamath Falls. Gasoline is available near Klamath Falls, Chemult and Chiloquin. There is also overnight lodging along this route.
Attractions & Points-of-Interests Along the Way
There are tones of outdoor activities along the route's 500 miles of green forests and varied mountain terrain. The byway offers wonderful hiking trails, including the nationally recognized Pacific Crest Trail, great fishing and kayaking in lakes and mountain streams and some of the finest terrains for snowmobiling in the nation. So bring your fly rod, kayak, sled and camping gear and enjoy a world-class recreational experience that the route has to offer.
