This is an absolutely incredible drive along a lonely road surrounded by spectacular scenery. Starting out on the east side of the Pend Oreille, drive across a bridge at the town of Usk, WA. You'll find yourself on a road that winds its way between the "Pend Oreille" River and a mountain range to the east. In spring this area is as green as Ireland and abounds with wildlife. You may spot deer, a brown bear and buffalo. The route starts out in the Kalispel Indian reservation in dense forests with a few stretches were it opens up so you get views of the river. Further north the scenery gets even prettier with some beautiful pasture land and wonderful river views. Then the route will descend into a box canyon for a short but nice run. When the road turns to gravel, slow down to enjoy the beautiful river scenery with the canyon wall backdrop. You'll see some nice homes perched on the buildable patches of land along the river.
Towns/Cities You'll Pass By/Through
Little town here and there but nothing really worth stopping at until your hungry. Take this for the scenic drive not as a trinket shopping trip.
Attractions & Points-of-Interests Along the Way
Don't take this drive if you're looking for things to do and places to stop at along the route. The fact that it's a lonely route where you can get away from the crowds and drive through amazing Washington mountain scenery makes it worth taking!
