Scenery You'll See
This route will take you through five Indiana counties. The scenery and places to stop and visit along the way include sandstone canyons, bridges, two beautiful state parks, nice small towns, soda fountains, antique stores and the symbol of the Amish - their traditional black horse-drawn buggies. IN 234 is becoming a favorite among both car drivers and motorcycle riders. The road is well maintained with excellent smooth pavement.
Towns/Cities You'll Pass By/Through
Nothing but small towns spread out few and far between on this ride. The roads are a lot of fun! You'll find broad high speed sweeping turns; narrow, tight curves through wooded hills, and roller coaster-like rides across lush countryside.
Attractions & Points-of-Interests Along the Way
Besides smooth, curvy pavement this drive offers some nice tourist attractions. In North Salem you'll find old fashioned saloons (such as the Red Dog Saloon), sundries stores and the original soda fountain. Other attractions along the way include Ladoga, where you can view the graceful Victorian homes. Shades State Park, with Sugar Creek running through it, is great for canoeing. Camping is also available here, but you'll need a canoe or kayak to be able to see the entire Sugar Creek canyon. Turkey Run is within a four-hour river trip from Shades. You'll find rentals at the Hwy 234 bridge crossing Sugar Creek. Turkey Run State Park is a very special place, one of the best in Indiana. Great camping along with great breakfasts and lunches are available here. The park also offers hiking trails that you can take to see Sunset Point and the old Log Church and then down to the river and across the suspension bridge. For those of you who like golf, Turkey Run has one of the most challenging golf courses in the state. Camping, fishing and boating opportunities are available at Waveland Lake recreation area. Here you can visit Brenda's Cafes' for early Sunday morning breakfast.
