When you start out in Helena you will see some beautiful mountain ranges that surround that portion of Montana. As you head southeast out of Montana you'll see some lakes along the way and soon you'll be in the southernmost portion of Montana which is surely one of the most breathtaking areas I've ever seen. When we took this road trip in the spring of 2014 it was as green as Ireland! Making it even more beautiful was when we rolled up on Hebgen Lake near the Wyoming boarder as we turned east. Then we crossed over into Wyoming and approached Yellowstone. Within a few miles of us pulling in the park we saw a heard of Buffalo descend over a small mountain and they came up to a river and began drinking. The rest of the park was AMAZING and my kids really loved all the geological activity of the park ... we saw old faithful and many other geysers.
My favorite part of the scenery was when we stopped and hiked at the many pull offs within Yellowstone. Wish we had more time to stay ... could have hiked the park for days.
Towns/Cities You'll Pass By/Through
Not much in terms of urban scenery along this path. Helena at the beginning is a really nice town that I recommend you spend some time exploring.
Attractions & Points-of-Interests Along the Way
Yellowstone National Park is the feature of this route and it is a world class park that you should really plan to spend at least a few days at.
