Scenery You'll See
This road trip is a great drive featuring nice homes on Lake Michigan. It's best to start this trip in Ogden Dunes in Northwest Indiana. There are some beautiful beach front homes that you can see before you continue northbound on US Hwy 12 through an undeveloped piece of shoreline of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore area. As you keep going north, the route takes you through Michiana Shores crossing over into Michigan. . In New Buffalo, follow the Red Arrow Hwy north. You'll see many art and craft shops. Along the way you can enjoy the views of Lake Michigan through break in the trees. Make sure to stop at secluded Hager Beach with its soft sand. Further north the area becomes greener with trees. The best time to drive this route is late September and early October. Blue Star Memorial Hwy is incredibly scenic in the fall.
Towns/Cities You'll Pass By/Through
Lots of small towns south of Holland, MI. Holland and Grand Haven have tons of shopping, fuel, and eateries. I would recommend the Country Inn and Suites in Holland, MI off James St. (turn right off Hwy 31, in the shopping area in the back). Kirby House in Grand Haven, Mi is a neat place, sit up top outside and watch the boats and sunset. The Red Arrow Hwy is a great road with gentle gradual turns. Blue Star Memorial Hwy is a bit old with the occasional pothole, but nothing major. There are spots than need resurfacing, but you can avoid them. Lake Shore Drive is a pleasure
Attractions & Points-of-Interests Along the Way
There are plenty of small towns along this route south of Holland, MI. Fuel, food and shopping are available in Holland and Grand Haven. Country Inn and Suites in Holland is a nice place to stay. It's pretty tough to find, but it's really nice. Just take James St. west to Lakeshore drive off James St. (turn right off Hwy 31 in the back of the shopping area).

Kirby House in Grand Haven is a wonderful place where you can sit upstairs and watch the sunset and boats coming in. If you're not in a hurry, I recommend to stay off of Hwy 3. It's a pretty rough Hwy.

Comments: Fabulous trip from the beginning to Holland. Most beautiful and scenic trip. Wonderful places to stop. Great photo ops. Drawback is there are few detailed maps of the actual road though red arrow pretty much follows 12, Blue star does not. Would HIGHLY recommend in any season. Thanks for this website!
